Motherlode is the brainchild of Pete Fry and John Roberton, two songwriters from England and Canada respectively. They had been writing songs together over several months, before producing the track Six Feet Under, the reflections of a man at the end of his epic odyssey. This evolved into an album of songs, charting a journey across oceans and continents, from east to west, in a time of lawlessness and great endeavour.
