Motherlode - The story of those courageous Cornish men and women, who, at the turn of the 19th century, driven by the promise of riches beyond their wildest dreams and the chance of a better life, set sail for a land where they would be free to rise above their humble beginnings. They left their old lives behind, not knowing if they would ever see their loved ones again and set sail for America during the time of the California gold rush. Their bodies and their souls would be tested beyond measure, but they were spurred on by their ambition and dreams of finding the motherlode.
Motherlode follows the journey of Ingram Young, a Cornish tin miner, from his home in St Just, Cornwall, England. He sets sail from Malpas Bay, across the Atlantic Ocean, through uncharted and hostile territory, to the goldmines of California and his final destination. As his journey unfolds, he encounters like-minded souls, who become his adopted family, but the grim reality of frontier life makes him question his motives. Amid thoughts and longing for the life that he left behind, he finally discovers the true meaning of wealth and happiness.
Musically, the writers, to be true to the spirit of the story, have written an Americana album, with English folk music influences, with songs of hope, passion, love, toil and comradeship, to take you on the adventure of a lifetime that will transport you back to the time of the Old West and those intrepid 49ers. The production will take its inspiration from the images collected from historical archives.
Motherlode: a concept album, multimedia stage show and musical. A story of adventure, hope, love, brotherhood, hardship, greed, redemption and the eternal search for that elusive Pot o' Gold.
